Apple open-sourced ml-sharp, which promises "Sharp Monocular View Synthesis in Less Than a Second". Here's a test I ran:

ml-sharp allows you to generate 3d Gaussian representation of a scene from a single image using a pre-trained model.
To get started, clone the ml-sharp repo, install the dependencies, and run sharp predict from the command line. In my tests, regardless of the image used, it seemed to consistently generate a similar sized .ply file of about 66.1MB. I've also found it works well with both images and illustrations.
That guassian can be compressed using splat-transform which reduces the .ply to one third the original size.
